EVENT BRIEF:
Since 2015, International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21. The United Nations has marked the day to raise awareness about the many benefits of practicing Yoga for people all over the world. June 21 is the longest day in Northern Hemisphere and hence was chosen as the International Yoga Day.
The students understood the significance of Yoga and the origin of it. The word Yoga has originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuja’ which means ‘to join or to unite.’ It symbolises the union of body and mind. Yoga practice has been dated to pre-vedic Indian traditions, known to help cure mental and physical diseases and maintain fitness.
The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga to develop strength, flexibility and immunity.
The students performed various asanas in their quest to keep themselves healthy and anxiety free going with the theme set by United Nations ‘Yoga For Humanity’ and the focus was on practicing yoga for physical and mental well-being.
